5 Ways to Make Halloween Fun for Home Learners

Halloween is a fun time to be at school…but can it be fun for home learners?

Obviously, YES!

Halloween is the perfect school holiday. It comes at that time when school no longer has that fresh “back to school” buzz and it also is far enough away from the end of the term that THAT’S not the forefront of anyone’s minds yet either. From costumes and candy to simply diverting attention away from any dry monotonous curriculum, it certainly is a welcome holiday.

Don’t IGNORE this special time just because you’re learning at home! Unless, of course, you want to…

Here are 5 simple ways to make Halloween fun for home learners!

#1 Decorate

Though you may be used to just decorating your front step for Trick-or-Treaters, make sure to bring those directions inside, too! If you have a desk, deck it out for a full holiday experience.

#2 Dress up

It’s hard to deny the joy of pretending to be someone you’re not for the day. This doesn’t mean you have to drop a hundred dollars on a swanky costume, though. Taping ears to a headband and colour-coordinating an outfit can also get you full dressing-up points. When it comes to Halloween, the more homemade, the more awesome in my humble opinion!

#3 Have a contest

If you have classmates or other people in your house, make up themed activities and competitions. Bob for apples with your sister. Have a pumpkin carving contest with your stepdad. Compete to get the fastest time out of a Hogwarts escape room. You certainly don’t need to be in the same room as someone to have a competition with them! If you don’t manage to convince anyone to join your games, that’s ok, too. There are plenty of games that can be played by yourself. Set a goal and challenge yourself to beat it!

#4 Make Something

Whether you’re a crafty person or a baking person, there are so many fun ideas for Halloween-themed creations you can make at home. Bonus points if you post something original and someone else makes it, too!

#5 Learn

Ok…I KNOW, I KNOW, I KNOW. You want to have FUN ideas. BUT. Hear me out!!! Learning can be significantly more fun when you don’t HAVE to memorize things for a test! Take half a day and go on a Google spiral learning about the origins of Halloween and some of its traditions from around the world.
