7 Steps to the Ultimate Zoom Halloween Party

I know, I know, I know, we’re all tired of hanging out by ourselves all the time and we really just want a good old fashioned Halloween party. BUT if going out and hanging with your friends just doesn’t seem to be in the cards this year because of social distancing, there’s no reason you can’t have a super awesome VIRTUAL Halloween party!

Check out the following 7 steps for the Ultimate Socially Distanced Zoom Halloween Party.

  1. Assemble a snack spread

A party isn’t a party without snacks, so this IS the logical first place to start. Since quantity isn’t necessarily your goal (you won’t have guests to help eat the snacks after all), Bulk Barn may turn out to be your best friend. Variety is key when it comes to snacks for one…or two…or however many people are in your bubble at home.

Be sure to include something from each of the 5 snack food groups:

  • candy

  • chocolate

  • salty

  • protein

  • beverages

2. Dress Up

Costumes aren’t only reserved for in-person gatherings. Keep the spirit of Halloween alive and make sure this isn’t just another run-of-the-mill, boring Zoom group chat. If you want to dress up in TRUE Zoom fashion, make sure your costume is only from the waist up. Sweatpants are always encouraged.

3. Decorate

Let’s face it - you’ve now spent TOO MANY DAYS IN THE SAME BORING APARTMENT. Make sure you dress up your space so you get into the party mood.

4. Have a pumpkin carving contest

Halloween wouldn’t be Halloween without a jack-o’-lantern, would it? Have everyone carve a pumpkin and bring it to the party. Whoever makes the best one gets to pick the movie!

5. Survive a virtual escape room

Plenty of these companies have popped up over the pandemic, and it really is the perfect game for Halloween. A little bit of suspense, a little bit of mystery…and maaaaybe a little bit of math thrown in there, too, just for funsies. The best part about virtual escape rooms is that nobody can confiscate the ultimate hint tool: your phone!

6. Ghost story chain game

Who doesn’t like a ghost story at Halloween? Once everyone has a snack and a beverage in front of them, take turns making up a sentence to create an original super spooky story. For a more challenging version, let each person only say one word…and see how long it takes for the story to unfold!

Not feeling creative? Check out one of these stories instead!

7. Watch a scary movie

Once everyone’s starting to get tired, a movie is always a great choice (especially when YOU get to pick it because your jack-o’-lantern was obviously the best). Your own couch is the perfect place for scary-movie-watching. Here, you have easy access to your favourite security blanket and pillow. Also, nobody else will be in the bathroom at that moment when you “really have to pee”.
