Secret Home Learning Hack Nobody Tells You

When I started home learning, I definitely wasn’t prepared for how different it would be from my old classroom environment. Since we’re so used to education being presented in a regimented atmosphere, it’s easy to think that it’s just more difficult to do when you aren’t forced into that structure. How is a single student expected to be motivated enough to just sit down and work from 8:30-3:30?

The big secret? You’re NOT.

One of the best parts about home learning is that you usually have a bit more control over your schedule. Depending on your program, you may have total control or only partial control…but regardless, most programs allow for at least SOME flexibility as opposed to NO flexibility. Use this flexible timing to your advantage and schedule your days with your own brain in mind.

What time of day do you work best at?

Most people find that they function best at certain times of day. You may be an early riser and fizzle out in the afternoon. Maybe you’re a night hawk and are pretty much incoherent at any point before noon.

There’s no shame in being one breed of human or the other, what matters most is that you acknowledge it and use it to your advantage. Whatever type of human you are, run with it.

So many people struggle with trying to wrap their brain around massive topics at 9am, and it’s really not worth the effort when they’re hard wired to function best from noon until midnight.

Play around with different schedules for the first while to find works best for your lifestyle and your brain.

It’s not all about JUST the start time, either

While knowing what time to start is step one, it’s not the only variable to consider. It’s also useful to know if you work best by starting with something easy, or if you’re better at tackling your biggest weakness right away. Some people find they have better brain power before it’s tired, whereas others need a little momentum from starting with something simpler.

Once you find your concentration sweet spot, always tackle your most difficult subjects at that time.

Now that I know what TIME I work best at, what should I do next?
